Sydney Dogs & Cats Home is Sydney’s only charity pound and community facility. Operating since 1946, the Home currently provides services for multiple councils across the Greater Sydney area. Each year they open their doors some 3000 times to welcome Sydney’s lost, abandoned and neglected pets.

A proud member of the Getting 2 Zero movement they pride themselves on never placing a time limit on any animal awaiting adoption. The Home receives no government funding for our work rehoming Sydney’s abandoned pets and is dependent upon generous donations from the community to continue their life-saving work.

Their Vision is to be Australia’s leading shelter for companion animals by improving the lives of our animals and people.

Their Mission is to responsibly reunite, rehome and rehabilitate companion animals in their care; whilst providing the highest level of service to the wider community.

The team at Matraville Veterinary Practice chose the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home as their charity because of their vision and mission. They do such excellent work either reuniting or rehoming dogs and cats as well as finding foster care and new homes. They rely on more than 500 volunteers in the community who give over 10,000 hours each of their time to support the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home.

Now and then, some of the animals in their care require some veterinary care to ensure they are healthy before they are rehomed. This is where our team at Matraville Veterinary Practice will play their part, specifically in desexing and kitten health checks as our way of supporting such a worthy charity.
