Regular Worming for Dogs

Worming isn’t just another box to tick on your dog’s healthcare routine, it’s a crucial part of keeping them (and your family) healthy. Dogs can easily pick up intestinal worms from their environment, other animals, or even from eating grass, soil, or infected prey.

Common worms affecting dogs include roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, and tapeworm, all of which can cause serious health issues if left untreated.

Why Worming Matters

  • Protects Your Dog’s Health: Worm infestations can lead to weight loss, diarrhoea, vomiting, anaemia, poor coat condition, and general unwellness. In puppies, worms can stunt growth and cause severe illness.
  • Protects Your Family: Some types of worms can be passed from pets to humans, particularly young children, making regular worming an important part of household hygiene.
  • Prevents Environmental Contamination: Regular worming helps stop the spread of worm eggs in parks, backyards, and shared spaces, protecting other pets and people too.
  • Keeps Your Dog Comfortable: Preventing worms helps your dog stay energetic, healthy, and happy all year round.

How Often Should You Worm?

  • Puppies: Every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age, then monthly until 6 months.
  • Adult Dogs: Every 3 months for life (or as advised by your vet).

Keeping up with a regular worming schedule is an easy, low-cost way to ensure your dog stays in top health and that your whole family remains protected. Speak with your vet to choose the right worming product for your dog’s age, size, and lifestyle.
